MAISY Canadian Province Database products incorporate information from Statistics Canada, including population survey data, surveys of employment payrolls and hours and labor force surveys along with data from Canadian utilities, association data, proprietary Canadian customer data as well on-site survey and utility billing data of commercial customers from northern tier US states.

MAISY Province Databases contain extensive building structure, operating characteristics, equipment information and other energy-related variables including detailed electricity, natural gas and oil consumption data along with traditional firmographic information for industrial, commercial and residential customer records throughout Canada. Databases provide hourly load information for each customer record at two levels of detail: (1) 24 hourly loads for each of 3 day-types (peak day, average week day and weekend) in each of 12 months for electricity, gas and oil, and (2) all 8760 electric hourly loads with end-use and whole-building detail for the entire year.

Customer data are also available for provinces and individual metropolitan areas, cities and other locations within each province.

Other MAISY products and services developed for the US market are also now available for Canadian markets.

Summary of MAISY Canadian Province Database Products and Services

While MAISY Canadian Province Database Systems reflect the unique energy use and other characteristics of commercial customers across Canada, database variables, support software and application areas are identical to those of the US state databases. Consequently, a summary of Canadian Province Database System components is described below with relevant additional information provided in the links to descriptions of the corresponding US System components.

MAISY Canadian Province Databases are composed of a scientifically selected sample of customers representing all utility commercial sector customers within each Province. Providing information on a large number of customer characteristics (see lists of residential, commercial and industrial database variables, ) for a representative sample of customers provides detailed information on individual customers and customer segments along with information on the entire population of customer customers. For instance, energy use and operating characteristics of a typical fast-food restaurant in Ontario can be determined along with the total number and total energy use of all fast food restaurants, the size of this market segment compared to all restaurants and to all commercial buildings and the distributions of fast-food restaurants in Ontario with respect to kWh, kW, and other customer characteristics.

MAISY Canadian Province Database Development utilized a variety of individual customer and market data sources including onsite customer surveys, customer utility billing data, government, association and proprietary data, and other sources. Information sources are summarized below:
Market Data. Jackson Associates has evaluated and processed dozens of market-related data sources to provide accurate characterizations of province, metropolitan area and city markets. Information includes data from Statistics Canada, including population surveys, surveys of employment payrolls and hours and labor force surveys along with data from Canadian utilities, association data, and other sources.
Customer Data. The MAISY Canadian Province Utility Customer Databases have been developed from Canadian customer data as well on-site survey and utility billing data of commercial customers from northern tier US states.

Standard MAISY Database software provides access to all Energy Marketing Database information with a patented data exploration process which answers specific marketing questions with mouse-clicks on charts . Users can navigate through the state-level energy marketing and hourly load databases, exploring customer characteristics and relationships. Information can be viewed in chart or table form at any level of aggregation ranging from an individual customer to all customers in a state or states. MAISY provides detailed reports and exports data to other software systems. The software runs from desktop or network systems. A sample screen is shown below. Download the MAISY Demo to take a guided tour of MAISY software capabilities illustrated with US state databases.

Canadian Province Hourly Loads Databases provide hourly load information for each customer record in the Energy Marketing Databases at two levels of detail: (1) 24 hourly loads for each of 3 day-types (peak day, average week day and weekend) in each of 12 months for electricity, gas and oil, and (2) all 8760 electric hourly loads by end use for the entire year. 8760 Hourly Load Databases provide hourly load data for each hour of the year for each record in the databases.

Standard MAISY database access software presents hourly load charts as part of user navigation of the Energy Marketing databases. Users apply mouse-clicks on charts displaying customer characteristics to drill down to the market segment or customer type of interest; hourly load charts reflect hourly loads associated with user-selected customers. The following MAISY chart shows July weekday hourly loads for California offices in the 50-100k square feet category.

Standard MAISY software also provides Excel worksheet access to hourly load data as illustrated below

Excel's Chart Wizard can be used to visually evaluate individual customer load profiles. Here, January kW week-day loads are shown for 10 customers.

This automated 20-minute slide show describes the MAISY Utility Customer and Hourly Loads Database System. While all of the examples in this demo reflect US applications, features and capabilities are identical for Canadian Database systems.

The self-extracting 1 Megabyte file can be downloaded and run under Windows 3.x or higher.

To install the demo after it is downloaded, use Windows File Manager (3.x) or Windows Explorer (95+) to go to the subdirectory that receives your downloads (e.g., c:\netscape) and double-click on the msydemo.exe file. The demo automatically installs in a new directory (c:\maisydem) and begins its tour of MAISY features. An uninstall program is also included to remove the demo software after you have finished your review.
