Energy Customer Applications

MAISY products and services are used by energy customers to benchmark current energy use characteristics, to evaluate energy costs in other geographic areas, to develop 8760 hourly load profiles to consider alternative electricity rate tariffs and to address topics like distributed generation options. The following MAISY Products and services support these activities.

Basic Utility Customer Database Products

Basic MAISY customer database information is available in two formats:

  • Full Utility Customer Database including all customer information with standard MAISY database software

  • Database Profiler systems providing a subset of the most frequently accessed information from the State Databases including annual and monthly energy use, 8760 hourly end use loads, number of customers and, optionally, monthly billing information, for any user-specified customer or market segments. Customer types and market segments are identified by the user by business type, fuel uses, size (square feet and employment), energy use and other customer characteristics (see http://www.maisy.com/profiler.htm for additional information).

Full database applications are typically selected by clients who undertake a range of analysis with in-house efforts while Profiler systems are appropriate for applications which focus primarily on customer energy use and hourly load profiles. The profiler system reduces in-house database analysis efforts while maintaining full flexibility in identifying customer types and market segments of interest.

MAISY Utility Customer Databases have been developed from information on more than 800,000 individual utility customers throughout the US and provide a representative sample of customers for individual states, regions and utility service areas.

MAISY database options include:
State-Level Databases include extensive building structure, building and end-use energy use, equipment, conservation, electricity, natural gas and oil consumption data including hourly loads and other energy-related variables along with traditional economic and demographic information for utility customers throughout the US. Information on total energy and customer counts as well as detailed customer and customer segment information is available with a patented point-and-click data evaluation and exploration user interface. All data in the state-level databases can be exported for analysis or use with other software.
Electric Utility Service Area Databases provide the same customer detail as the State-Level Databases and, can, as an option, include electric bills and measures of cost of service and profitability for each customer record. Databases are available for any electric utility service area including investor-owned utilities, municipal utilities, public utility districts, and co-op areas. Electric bills reflect utility rate structures and each customer's monthly and/or hourly electricity use. Customer-detailed cost-of-service is determined from each customer's hourly electricity use (for interval-metered analysis) or monthly use along with dynamic load profiles and hourly generating and capacity costs . Customer Profit shows the difference between revenue derived from the customer through monthly bills and the cost of actually providing electricity to the customer.
MAISY Canadian Province and Service Area Databases products incorporate information from Statistics Canada, including the 1996 population survey, surveys of employment payrolls and hours and labor force surveys along with data from Canadian utilities, association data, proprietary Canadian customer data as well on-site survey and utility billing data of commercial customers from northern tier US states. Other MAISY products and services developed for the US market are also available for Canadian markets including Profiler software, Energy-ID, Energy Use Profiles, and DG-MAS.
Custom Energy Data Solutions are available for clients needing only a subset of the database information. Custom data ranges from a few summary statistics to large relational databases. If you have energy-related information needs, Jackson Associates can provide the data.

Distributed Generation Products

DG Marketplace provides potential DG customers with FREE estimates of energy bill savings. Online analysis shows utility bill savings available with engines, microturbines, turbines and fuel cell systems customized specifically for each site.

Other Customer Information Services

MAISY Customer Load Profiling models expand existing utility billing data to include full 8,760 hourly load data for each customer record in the utility's Billing file. 8,760 hourly load profile data from MAISY Service Area Databases are used along with statistical and engineering models and historical weather and billing data to determine hourly loads for customer heating, air conditioning and baseloads for both electricity (and natural gas if the gas billing data are available) for each of the utility's industrial, commercial and residential customers. This detailed hourly load data can be used to evaluate customer profitability and to assess each customer's market potential for products and services .
